(Trigonella foenum-graecum
A nutritious all-round body conditioner. Fenugreek can help increase milk flow for nursing mares. It can also be used to tempt horses who have poor appetites, gastric problems and can improve hoof and coat condition. Fenugreek contains Calcium, Vitamins A, B, C and E and is ideal for horses that suffer "poor condition". It has proven very helpful against eczema and cracked heels by applying a paste, made out of fenugreek seeds and water, to the effected area.
Fenugreek grows mainly on clay ground in sunny countries; it flowers in May and June, with yellow-white petals. After flowering the husks are left over, containing the oblong shaped seeds. The seeds are most frequently used and are an important ingredient for most curries.
Fenugreek seed are a rich source of mucilage, saponins, volatile oils, flavonoids, sterols and bitter constituents.
